A&E Patient Befriender/Transfer Team Volunteer

To assist and support the delivery of quality care and to contribute to the effective running of a department by concentrating on tasks, which directly support and assist the patient and ward staff.

Skills

Talking to patients, general conversation

Ensure they are reasonably comfortable whilst waiting to be seen (i.e. requirement for a pillow/blanket)

Observe/action each individual patients dignity (i.e. do they require a blanket etc.)

Occasionally to assist clinical staff in transferring patients to clinical/ward areas. (Applicable training required)

Notify staff if the patient requires any assistance (i.e. toilet facilities)

Assist in making drinks for patients (seek permission prior from staff nurse in respect to each individual patient, in case awaiting treatment)

Restocking/replenishing storage areas

Assist patients to complete Friends & Family surveys (if applicable at the time)

Safeguard patient confidentiality at all times including adhering to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Adhering to the guidelines/procedures of keeping a safe and clean environment
