You will attend a Welcome meeting with the
Engagement & Volunteer Manager where you will be introduced to Delapré
Abbey Preservation Trust and provided with information on the role. This will
be followed by your first volunteering session which will become your “induction”
– this includes an induction of the building and attending a History Tour of
the abbey, following this you will attend a further 3 induction sessions.
This is a chance to improve the gardens and immediate environment around Delapré Abbey and to enjoy being in the outdoors. As the seasons change, new projects will evolve and your supervisor will inform you on what is required. Therefore, you will be able to volunteer on a variety of different tasks throughout the year, contributing to sustaining the gardens for the benefit of the community and visitors. You’ll also get to meet new people and develop your gardening skills.
Principle tasks involved:
• Seasonal planting, alongside the gidance of the Head Gardener
• Weeding, pruning and tidying up designated garden spaces
• Working alongside project work and maintenance
• Garden designing and maintenance
Delapré Abbey is a site for everyone – from
visitors to the building, to local dog walkers who have come here for years. They want everyone to enjoy the pleasure of seeing the gardens and environs of the
Abbey maintained throughout the seasons. They want enthusiastic and reliable
people to help regenerate and sustain these areas, who have a passion for
gardening and the outdoors, as well as those that want to learn new skills.
Skills
In this role, they are looking for people who are willing to:
• Develop and improve their basic gardening skills
• Be part of a team and working with guidance
• Come in “mucky clothes” and want to get stuck into dirty tasks
• Volunteer in varied weather and temperature conditions
