Kitchen Assistant

Key elements of the role

The kitchen is split into two areas:

1. Serving customers and handling money

2. Assisting with sorting and storing donations

• Making tea/coffee/squash

• Washing pots

• Using the dishwasher 

• General tidying and cleaning

• Serving lunch to customers

• Cleaning down the kitchen at the end of the session

• Bagging up food items for carry out’s

• Working with money and using the till

• Adhere to basic hygiene rules

• Adhere to the Food safety systems in place 

• Sorting donated items into relevant dates & storage 

Commitment by you• Patience, perseverance and understanding of our customers and their needs.• The same days each week• Hours 11am to 2pm Monday to Friday • Adhere to current policies and procedures.• Contact a member of the Hope Centre Team if you are unable to make your session as soon as you are able:• Attend and take part in meetings and training courses as and when required.• Volunteering is subject to a DBS check (CRB)• Two references required• Adhere to the current Hope Centre policies and procedures• If you appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol you will not be permitted to perform your role and will be asked to leave, as you will be in breach of the Hope Centre Health and safety Policy.Good practice guidanceAll volunteers are encouraged to obtain the Level 2 Food Safety supported by the Hope Centre.Commitment by us• Induction to the Hope Centre• Access to training • Regular news updates• Support session• Open door policy to the Volunteer Coordinator Team• Encouragement to try new things• Reference after 8 weeksEquality and Diversity• The Hope Centre is committed to equality of opportunity in every aspect of its work. • The data collected from volunteers helps the Hope Centre to monitor the success of its equal opportunities policy.

• Liaise and volunteer alongside other staff and volunteers allocated to work in this area

• Report regularly to the kitchen team
