Samaritan Volunteer

Banbury & District Samaritans have been in Albert Street in the heart of the town since 1974 offering emotional support to around 20,000 people a year.

They are looking for volunteers, who after full training of 9 months will talk on the phone, email and sometimes be face-to-face with callers who are suffering emotional distress.

They may be in crisis or suicidal or they may be lonely and without support. The volunteer will often have the privilege of sharing someone's pain and being able to lighten the load and will always be supported by another volunteer, and will become part of a large and caring team.

No formal qualifications are needed. This organisation is looking for ordinary people who can listen without giving advice and without judging.  They need people who can stand back and allow the caller the time and space to explore and express their feelings.
