Horticulture and Conservation in Daventry for people recovering from mental illness

We are looking for volunteers to support at Green Health in Daventry.

If you are looking for a rewarding and meaningful role and are interested in gardening, horticulture or allotments and feel able to support and help people with gardening projects we would love to hear from you.

Green Health at Daventry is a unique group that offers people living with mental illness the opportunity to get involved in horticulture projects.

The group is run by friendly and knowledgeable people including wonderful volunteers, it meets weekly and helps members improve their wellbeing in a therapeutic and non-judgmental environment. Members develop knowledge and awareness of horticulture and its benefits on health. We also organise social opportunities, such as a meal out at Christmas. New members are warmly welcomed and included.

Situated within a mile of Daventry town centre, Daventry Country Park is the perfect location for cycling, jogging, dog walking, fishing, bird watching or a pleasant stroll. The park has a circular 3.7 kilometre walk around Daventry Reservoir, which provides an ideal location for fishing and bird watching, while the Meadow Walk offers an alternative route. A visitor centre provides information about the park, and there is a café, children’s play area and several picnic areas available.

Many members of the group have experience of mental health problems and this project enables people to engage in social interaction and healthy exercise whilst also developing or revisiting skills and rebuilding self esteem.

Why not give it a try and get in touch for a chat about how you could get involved, thank you.

Skills

Empathy with individuals who have mental health problems and an interest in the outdoors and some physical work.
