Home Start is a voluntary scheme in which volunteers offer support to families with children under five. Our aim is to support families through difficult times. this can range from families coping with multiple births, disabilities, mental health problems, financial struggles or bereavement.
A Home Start Volunteer visits a family in their own home where parents feel most at ease. After the initial training you will visit a family for 2-3 hours a week to offer, friendship and support, a listening ear, practical help, reassurance and encouragement and help in using local groups and services.
Skills
Home Start Volunteers do not need any special qualifications but it is important that they are understanding, reliable committed and able to respect the need for confidentiality. All we ask of Volunteers is that they can attend a training course which takes one day a week over a period of up to 8 sessions and be available to give 2-3 hours once a week to visit a family.
