Do you have a few hours to spare? Do you like getting to know someone? Do you want to help a carer who might struggle to leave the house otherwise? If so you might be interested in becoming a volunteer with the Carers Sitting Service at Northamptonshire Carers.
The Carers Sitting Service gives a break to those who have a caring responsibility for a husband, wife, partner, parent, relative or friend.
Sitting sessions take the form of befriending and involve meeting the same person in their own home. The service is available across the whole of the county of Northamptonshire but you would be volunteering in a location local to you. The role could involve you volunteering in your own town or village.
The role does not involve providing personal care, undertaking cooking, shopping or any other domestic duties.
For this role you will need:
- Good communication skills
Whilst previous experience is not essential it may prove helpful to this role if you have:
- Worked in the caring professions, for example, social care, social work or nursing.
- Skills that are transferable from either work or life experience (e.g. having been in a caring role yourself).
- Age restrictions
You must be over the age of 18 yrs.
- DBS check required
- Equal Opportunities Policy
- Expenses reimbursed
Travel expenses will be paid for any visits you make
- Ongoing support
- Training provided
Together with lone worker training, it is possible that dependent on the needs of the person you are supporting, you may be offered some training in dementia awareness.
- Volunteer induction
- Volunteer Policy
- Volunteers covered by insurance
- Written role description
When can I volunteer?
It is anticipated that for this role you would be able to commit between 2 and 3 hours a week or, the same amount of time fortnightly or monthly between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday-Friday. Volunteering is flexible and enables you to offer your time on a day that suits you and the hours that suit you. In this way it is possible to fit in some volunteering around your other commitments and interests.
