Assistant Treasurer for Nene Valley Scout District

Nene Valley District Scout Council is seeking an organised, detail orientated, numerate and financially savvy volunteer to take on the role of Assistant Treasurer. In this vital position, you'll contribute to the smooth operational running of our Scout District, assisting with financial management to ensure we can continue providing exceptional scouting experiences for our youth members! The role The Assistant Treasurer will support the Treasurer in his responsibilities, which are: Managing and monitoring the financial activities for the District and Board of Trustees. Preparing and presenting financial reports and accounts to the Board of Trustees. Leading the Board of Trustees in the creation of budgets and financial planning and monitoring of these. The issuance of invoices, processing incoming invoices and payments, and reconciling bank records using Xero accounting software. Ensuring all financial reports, annual statements of account and supporting documents are maintained accurately and in accordance with regulations. Ensuring the District is financially able to function, has appropriate reserves and accounting procedures and controls in place. Preparing the Annual Statement of accounts for independent examination and approval by the Board of Trustees and presenting these at the Annual General meeting. Administering the process of independent examination of the Annual Statement of Accounts in accordance with Scouts Policy, Organisation and Rules. As the Assistant Treasurer we see you being able to make an impact initially helping with the processing of invoices and payments, reconciling bank records and maintaining financial records, then assist the Treasurer with his other responsibilities as you develop in the role. If you can spare just a couple hours a week, that is all we’re looking for. Scouts volunteering isn’t just by those in uniform leading activities, but also by those with administrative skills to support our groups and activity programmes in a non-uniform way, if only for a couple of hours a week.

Skills

Ideally you will have some bookkeeping, financial management or treasurer type experience, but we are open to helping you develop this experience if you have the personal qualities, skills and interest in giving back to your community. With the training and support we’ll provide this is a fantastic opportunity to develop valuable skills and experience for a treasurer’s role with a charity!

Availability Details

The role can be carried out when it suits you - there are evening meetings 4 or 5 times a year otherwise everything is done on-line or at adhoc meetings to suit the attendees.
